I’m in Portland, and it appeared surprisingly tepid. Everyone I saw today who mentioned it rolled their eyes and said, stay away from downtown. The dutifully complicit local news had this to say:

“What appeared to be the largest Portland area demonstration at Tom McCall Waterfront Park highlighted recent detainments of asylum seekers and undocumented immigrants; women's and LGBTQ+ rights; the Ukraine-Russia War; Palestine; and Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security cuts as key issues. “

Sort of the famous Marlin Brando line from The Wild One, when asked what he was rebelling against: “Whaddaya got?” The media photos showed tired, ancient Boomers sitting in lawn chairs holding up their pathetic signs. I saw a few small groups on street corners, also largely Boomers. I’m one myself, btw, and I find it particularly sad that so many of these people haven’t questioned their assumptions since 1968, or noticed that their party is now the tool of the corporate/intelligence/Big Government complex to which they still laughably imagine they are The Resistance. ™

The nitwit holding the sign demanding not 1939 Germany but 1789 France forgets what happened to all the Revolution’s supporters: many were denounced as incivisme and got to sneeze into the basket, including their Terror leaders like Robespierre, for the Revolution are her own children. If only Stalin knew!

The rally/protest in Castle Rock, CO, (in a rather red county) was handing out lots of small American flags to participants. I would guess the organizers have heard waving Mexican or Palestinian flags is somehow not looked on with favor by most Americans, so spent some budget on a few boxes of flags. Participants skewed heavily white female and Boomer-ish, almost as if the stereotype is true-

BY THE WAY, if they don't want kings, why don't they introduce legislation for TERM LIMITS so legislators can't act like Kings themselves?

Nope. One shady looking guy we kept an eye on, but nothing happened while we were around.

That’s good. I’d love to find the left gradually trending toward peaceableness if that can’t manage sanity.
