Each family is defined in part by their traditions. One of our odd ones is Sunday hamburger and French Fries with my two unmarried sons attending. We typically spend over an hour afterwards just catching up with each other and solving the world's problems. Thus we are thankful that we can be a part of their unfolding lives as we and they move through time. Thanks be to God for His rich Providence, Protection and steadfast Love. Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours, Glenn, and thanks for all you do! You are a blessing to so many in so many ways! Our family gathering will be on Saturday this year. Gathering with close friends today, and with more friends tomorrow - very likely an acoustic jam session will break out!! God's rich blessings to all!

Keep up your traditions as long as you can, then encourage youngsters to take over. They are deeply meaningful to all even if you don't realize it now.

Happy Thanksgiving. It's one holiday the far left hasn't corrupted...yet. My entire nuclear family with in laws and grandkids are in our house this week and it's been wonderful.

Happy Thanksgiving, Glenn, to you and Helen! Thank you for all your good columns. Traditions are wonderful and yes, inch by inch, year by year the children go off to create their own traditions and that means you've done a good job.

We broke with tradition this year. I moved two states away from the rest of the family some 20+ years ago, but made it back for Thanksgiving every year, weather permitting. But it's a long drive; I'm working three part-time jobs that don't offer a lot of schedule flexibility; and I'll be seeing everyone at Christmas. So we decided to stay home. Much more relaxing, productive, and "free," if that's the word -- we're doing what we feel like doing, rather than dancing to someone else's choreography. Not that dinner at home was bad; far from it. I love my family. It just felt like going through the motions.

So I cooked. I'm no Glenn -- almost everything came from a box or a can. But it was filling and bountiful and nothing burned, so a win. And I'll be going home for Christmas, of course. I think it was the back-to-back family obligations that finally made me say: I've got a life here. I should start living it.

I guess what I'm saying is, yes, there's a lot to be said for tradition. But when it starts feeling more like a chore than a joy, maybe it's time to start a new one.

Love and blessings to all; may we all have much to be grateful for.

I always get the request for my "famous" guacamole, which is just guacamole mixed with love and tradition.

Best to you and the family!

This our first year having Big Dinner away from our home. I’m not prepared to be a guest rather than a host, but our daughter insisted.

Happy Thanksgiving, Glenn, to you and Helen! Thanks for all your good columns.

It's a chilly but sunny day here outside Nashville, as probably there. My family is going to have beef tenderloin with roasted asparagus and roasted tomatoes. Ditched the turkey long ago, cause everyone gets sleepy!

Best to you,

Jane aka Webutante
