I've always preferred the original "muddle through" but I'm very glad the *original* original version ("It may be your last") got replaced; there's a limit to how downbeat I want to be.

It struck me only in late middle-age how large a fraction of Christmas songs are downright mournful in tune even if the lyrics are about the Good News. For every major-key "Jingle Bells" or "Deck the Halls" there's a minor-key "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" or "We Three Kings". (And don't get me started on "In the Bleak Midwinter", a lovely song but a veritable dirge.)

All the best to you and your readers!
